To Be a Community

Community is a widely used term. Everything that brings together a group of people is called “community”: the international community, the mountain community, the web community, etc. However, we often feel that an aggregate of people with some similarities is not sufficient to be defined as a Community. We instinctively expect more sharing, deeper exchanges, high capacity of harmonious coexistence and mutual support. One usually wishes that being in a community will feel a bit like being in a family.

However, families are not always places of peace and love, but this is generally what everyone wishes and tends to make when a sufficiently high level of consciousness is present. It is thus possible to understand that pursuing a common Purpose and establishing right human relationships is ultimately a benefit for everybody.

But how can a Community really come to be?

From an etymological point of view, the word “community” means “to be combined with others with an obligation to give and a right to receive,” that is, a whole governed by mutual relations. Here is a first indication: a community is based on exchanges. As far as the “obligation to give” is concerned, we have to think about “what to give,” “how” and “for what?”

If we look at some examples of communities that seem close to achieving a harmonious system we find that a common Aim is present, a purpose which guides actions and implies the network of relationships between members. A Community is such when everyone pursues a shared goal. The higher and more inspiring this goal is, the more the collection of members feels established in the sense of belonging and perceives itself as a Community. This is effected in a simple way as each member of the Community plays a functional role in the whole and selects his/her own field of action and presence, inserted effectively into the overall picture.

This can be seen by observing the best efforts of human communities. It is found by looking at the wonderful network of relationships and connections taking place in heavenly Communities: the Solar System, as the closest example to us, expresses, through the wonderful planetary motions, their energetic exchanges and their coordinated dance on the ecliptic Plane, the possibility of cooperating to an evolutionary Project where everyone plays their part, complementing each other, living in Communion and expressing in this way their best.
