Some Oriental teachings consider the psychic centre between the eyebrows, sometimes called “third eye”, as the seat of the “point of view”. Whatever its physical location is, it is worth recognizing it, in essence, as the origin of everyone’s psychic coordinates, and when the personality is well integrated it is ruled and managed by it. Things and events are always evaluated from this centre, which being personal is relative. The conflict of opinions, that troubles many minds and often leads to war, is created by the relative use of the point of view, which is easily taken as absolute.
Various schools of thought have long taught how to shift attention from the personal point of view to elsewhere (heart, crown of the head), and now some of those schools are also known in the West.
Here is the solution of the problem. To overcome the deception of distance between things or ideas, which generates an unlimited sequence of “convincing illusions”, it is necessary to control that centre, which is master of the ordinary man. It is a big task, but it defeats all deceptions.
