Let us continue a series of 12 articles devoted to the 12 “essential qualities” related to the 12 Signs of Zodiac, the living symbol, key and reality for the development of consciousness. The main purpose here is to marry the established understanding of the Signs in the Astrology of esoteric Teachings with Laurency‘s work on the corresponding 12 Essential Qualities.
3rd – Festival of Gemini – “I recognise my other self and in the waning of that self, I grow and glow.“
Gemini is the third sign in the procession of the zodiac that has bearing on the development of the self as per the geocentric tropical perspective. The landing vibrations of Gemini magnified through the Sun correspond to the 3rd of the 12 Essential Qualities. It is an opportunity to align our service and learning in harmony with those energies so that acquisition of Gemini’s airy qualities can be facilitated for humankind.
Laurency’s take on the matter is expressed as “Obedience to Law”. May the following of his work be of use in our approach to the full moon of Gemini, the most propitious time to realise the 3rd essential quality:

Below is a basic consideration of concepts listed above as a starting point for deeper personal and collective consideration for world-activity:

Sense of Duty – In time of struggle with thoughts and emotions we benefit from having a guide. The guide can help us decide what is the best choice between seemingly irreconcilable polar opposites, for example: compassion and firmness, left and right, progressiveness and conservativeness, and so on. The guide is a sense of duty. Duty is not adherence and compliance with human-made systems, although parts of the these system can be harmonious and resonant. Instead, true duty is accordance with natural and cosmic Law. It is a sense that at first is subjective – a touchstone to return to when we are confused or upset, that with careful attention over time the sense becomes more objective in its guidance. If we responsibly and dutifully align our thinking, feeling and doing with the true winds of the universe, then our sails will take us far.

Moderation – Like a diet, a little bit of everything affords a safe digestion of life’s experiences. However, moderation cannot be adopted before testing occurs – otherwise it is seen as a imposition or prohibition. Experience provides possibility for excess so for those who need the requisite lesson can undergo the relevant test. Only then can the desire in us be awakened to find ‘just the right amount’. This applies for what we give as well as what we receive. Flowing balanced exchange allows for life to breathe naturally, unclogged by excess. Then the life giving force of air can bring vitality.

Striking The Golden Mean – As air is blown into instruments it causes harmonic spaces to vibrate with resonance, and then as the note joins another harmony is created. A special interval of powerful resonant harmony occurs at the ‘major-sixth’ – a peak expanded co-vibration. This is a symbol for the point of greatest efficiency for action, the golden mean harmony. Each task in life comes alive when the same harmonic approach is applied – what is the sweet spot? Not too much, nor too little; not too far or too close. Once the right note is struck then the vibrational air of the work blows through in just the right way leading to the greatest achievements.

Honesty – Deception is to hide from the Law what we want to do to achieve some sort of power we are not ready for. The act of hiding also conceals ourselves from the beneficence of natural cosmic Law. We keep ourselves in the dark, without healthy air to breathe. Only once we accept the structure of true Law do we then find true freedom. True freedom is liberty to do what we are genuinely ready for and can take responsibility for in concordance with the harmony of Law. Order allows for beneficial action. Honest application of Law opens up surprising possibilities. It is a sincere pact with the true breath of life.

Straightforwardness – The path to reconciliation on all levels may start with odd twists and turns, but eventually opens out into a beautifully simple clear line into the skies of our future. It becomes uncomplicated and uncluttered by distractions and ‘beating around the bush’. The rhythmic and graceful steps forward communicate to the opposing sides that attraction and understanding is possible through a sure and clear directive. It is a movement of equal parts necessity and transparency.

Endurance – No obedience to Law is sustainable if we dedicate to reconciliation haphazardly. No progression is truly possible if effort to apply Law is a token show of superiority or righteousness. If we are not cut out for duty to nature and cosmos then we must steadily work up our endurance. Another way to understand endurance is to see duty as a practice that becomes easier once the myriad of disharmonic thoughts, feelings and actions are released; once we let go of our own confused agenda or our ardent digging of heels into the ground. We can then go the extra mile and explore life with Law as our map. Applied effort to do the work of testing and discarding all the smoky failed experiments will yield the clean-air truth if we stick at it.
