About Gravitation

Gravitational waves are the outstanding topic of the day: they have been heard scientifically (through the interferometer LIGO) for the first time in September 2015, and announced officially on 11 February, thus joining the stream of knowledge and connection to the cosmos for the whole human community.

This does not miraculously solve the problems of humanity and of the planet, but it certainly expands the perspective on our relationship with Space. Space is increasingly proving to be a plenum instead of ’empty’: the more the tools are refined, the greater the tendency to detect the continuity of Space through unceasing transfer and discontinuous transference of Energy/Matter.

Referring the reader to the technical papers for details of this ‘discovery’, namely of this new contact between human consciousness and spatial reality, we wish here to compare some passages from the Teaching of Ancient Wisdom, to detect possible analogies between the orthodox and occult visions of Science.

For occult Science, Space is alive and is the container of Life, these being other names for Matter and Energy, for Substance and Spirit: their relationship is measured in terms of Consciousness or Light, or Thought (E=MC²).

Thus gravitation can be compared not only to magnetism between masses, but to attraction between Consciousness, or Spirits provided with Substance, another (not at all ‘religious’) formula for material Energies.

Matter cannot exist without Energy, nor Spirit without Substance, since these Polarities are the two aspects or Origins of the same Mystery or Reality; and what connects them is gravitation, or Love between the Two Origins. Its ‘positive’ energy is the Spirit aspect and Its ‘receptive’ matter is the Substance aspect. Their relationship is infinite Love or Consciousness.

The vector of this cosmic Gravitation or Love is Fohat for the highest Tibetan esoteric philosophy, “the Steed of the divine Knight”, “Electric Fire plus mental Fire” for theosophy, “primary and psychic energy” for Agni Yoga, the connecting Ray (composed of devic essences) between universal Mind and Matter, between Logoi and substantial Planes (ethers), between Energy and Matter.

So let us think widely, here and now, everywhere and always, because Space listens and remembers, sees and fulfills our mental projections:

“… Do you not imagine the thunder of thoughts in space? One disciple asked, “If thought is ponderable, then must not space be overburdened with thoughts and gravitation thus disturbed?” What do you think?” (Agni Yoga Collection, Community § 150)

We honor the findings of our human science, but remember that as long as this does not understand the sacredness of Space, Its conscious Life, it can not see or hear how things really are:

“It is necessary to strive toward the utmost, the absolute. The utmost absolute gravitation will be toward the far-off worlds. Earthly beauty is lost in the glory of the super-stellar rays. Earthly science, remembering with difficulty yesterday and ignorant of tomorrow, is insignificant, and contributes nothing to the knowledge about the course of luminaries coming into existence.

How may one approach the above-mentioned Absolute? It cannot be done through technical means or earthly science, nor by descriptive art. It is possible only through the expansion of consciousness, when the earthly being is engulfed by the emanations from the distant spheres. Thus, those who are approaching Us, or rather the boundaries of the orbit of Earth, lose their specialty. Only in the realization of all-comprehensiveness may one endure the brilliance of the luminaries. But in order to contain this scintillation, one must set alight one’s inner fires.

The element of fire is most striking, transcendental, and if you wish to classify Our Community according to the elements, refer to the great fire which gives all, purifies all, and requires nothing.” (Agni Yoga Collection, Community § 20)

Let us build the Future with the precision and solidity of Fire, imagining it as the Crystal of Unity, the only Law of cosmic Love – from Center to Circumference, from a black hole to the galaxy, from the hierarchical Principle to the human community:

“… I have mentioned the spindle of the spirit as the center of a spiral. Keep this structure in mind, because inflexibility, surrounded by centrifugal motion, can resist all agitations. The structure of Our Community calls to mind the same spindles surrounded by powerful spirals. It is the best structure for the battle, the end of which is a foregone conclusion. Thus, it is necessary to understand Our structures materially. And why is an unintelligible abstraction necessary, when the principle of the Cosmos is one? The system of the growth of crystals also demonstrates how multiform is the world of gravitation. Seekers can understand that one has to proceed along material lines in pursuing higher knowledge. Whoever does not love the clarity of crystals will not reach Us. Unrepeatable purity means perfection of form. One may show a crystal to a child, and the child will grasp the perfection of it. Indeed the structure of the crystals of the community will yield perfection of form.” (Agni Yoga Collection, Community § 90)

“Thus, thought can be commanded to direct itself to a benevolent intention. Humanity dreams of a better future, still it does not know how to pierce the depths of darkness, because the basis manifested by the Cosmic Fire is not observed in life. The laws of gravitation have lost their significance, hence only the law of purification can provide that which the planet has lost. Verily, only purification can provide the essentials for efflorescence. The key is within the spirit, and only this key can vouchsafe achievement. Hence, on the way to Us, the entire beauty of spirit must be understood.” (Agni Yoga Collection, Hierarchy § 189)

“Accept in spirit the concept of Infinity. Affirm Infinity in your consciousness. Apply all thought on a broad scale. This lever of the Fire of Space is manifested everywhere. Throughout the limitless consciousness the Hand of the Lords acts; apply likewise your striving. Where does the Fire of Infinity not live? Is not the concept of the Creator affirmed by straight-knowledge in the spring of eternally flowing love? To us is manifested the symbol-the spring of love. Is there not boundless labor in Eternity and in the works of Cosmos? Is not the eternally living seed of Our striving implanted for the help to humanity?

Eternally moving, eternally striving, eternally aspiring to the heights, eternally manifesting vigilance, affirming Truth, manifesting the radiant thread of the Mother of the World by the armor of infinite beauty, assailing the darkness of ignorance, promising to the abode of humanity the glory of the stars-thus walk, saying, “World, I wish to accept all thy gifts; I wish to fill to the brim the chalice of attainment; I wish, O Lord, to drain the chalice of the Wisdom of Thy Covenants!”

Give Us the possibility to manifest Our power, to extend the hand of help. The law of gravity is acknowledged by all. Why not apply this simple condition in life? Joy can attract with a magnetic current the joy from space. But the thought of darkness gives birth to layers of heavy clouds. We vouch for the reality of the gravitation of thought.

When the trend of human thought is not toward spirituality, evolution is not accelerated.” (Agni Yoga Collection, Infinity I § 7)

The vital Principle of fiery Thought will lead Humanity to respond to the gravitation of the Infinite:

“Perceive that the power of the law of the life principle is invincible. The tension of the spiral of the higher energy puts all elements to work. The accumulation of energy in the spheres of the world gives variety to the substance, and it calls for the manifestation of creativeness.

Cosmos manifests no periods of lull. There is no refusal; there is only a summons to humanity to accept all the gifts of Space. Why then not apply the cosmic energy to the broadest task, to the glorious acquisition of treasures new to us? The advance of consciousness to the cognizance of will will reveal Infinity.

There are witnesses to the cosmic manifestations in our sphere. This formula may be repeated because the course of evolution is disclosed to the fearless spirit who knows the entire mystery and all the striving toward Infinity. The kindling of the fires of the Lotus is the highest manifestation of the Cosmic Fire. Verily, when the synthesis of affirmation of the cosmic energy is manifested upon Earth, one may say, “Our planet is encircled by a spiral upon which we may also descend, but how beautiful is the spirit that ascends and transmutes life into the radiance of Infinity!” To this bearer of the supermundane scrolls is revealed the entrance into the higher spheres, and he will bring to the lower spheres the key to the realization of Infinity.” (Agni Yoga Collection, Infinity I § 21)

And it is only the Human Heart, that egoic Lotus and Magnet of Love which can respond to the stellar gravitation, to distant worlds, to the psycho-dynamic or evolutionary power of Infinity. No crowds are necessary to transform the Planet, just an Order of human Atoms:

“The Cosmic Magnet is reflected in everything existing. Gravitation collects those particles of the creation of Cosmos which in turn reflect the cosmic magnetism. The whirl forges the contacts wherever the psycho-dynamic force is affirmed. Wherever the attraction weakens, severance results. Like an explosion, these breaks disperse the parts which belong to one element. The cosmic magnetism gathers nations, gathers races, gathers parts of the world, gathers aspects of evolution, gathers arcs of consciousness, gathers manifestations of all attractions. At the root of all vital manifestations may be discovered cosmic magnetism, and even behind the karmic law stands the Cosmic Magnet. The very thirst for existence is conditioned by the Psycho-magnet of Cosmos.

An unusual manifestation of psycho-life is in the blending of the Human Atom. It is manifested consciously, and the psycho-dynamic force draws the most subtle threads into the blending. This manifested junction of the separated halves of the Atom is called the Sacred Action of Cosmos. Therefore, Our cosmic mission is sacred, fiery, and urgent. When an Atom approaches the blending and is consciously motivated, the Star of the Mother of the World glows most vividly and the higher worlds are jubilant.

The psycho-united Atoms fill Space with the fire of creation. When the psycho-dynamic force brings together the halves which belong to each other, cosmic justice triumphs and Space is atremble with cosmic jubilation.

When I spoke about the far-off worlds, I had in mind also Our planet. The earthly consummation of the mission of your fire and your straight-knowledge was needed for Our Consummation.” (Agni Yoga Collection, Infinity I § 120)

Let the universal correlation between the Two Origins, set up by the resistance of the Hierarchy of Hearts, be the living Model of harmonious relations on Earth, the guarantee of evolutionary equilibrium or responsiveness to the Cosmic Magnet:

“Universal correlation establishes the balance which sustains the entire chain of manifestations. The indivisibility of the entire cosmic process demands precision of correlation. The more powerful is the cosmic process, the higher is the tension of gravitation to the Cosmic Magnet; the more resistance, the greater the pull of the magnet; the steadier, the more powerful is the attraction. Thus, the attractive force of the Basic Magnet acts in correlation with the universal process. As the acting force is expressed in the pull of the Magnet, so the gravitational force of universal correlation collects the necessary energies. Humanity is attracted by the same process of the Magnet, that of universal correlation. All human actions, being conscious factors, contribute their supplementary share to the universal correlation. Thus, the universal equilibrium can be converted by man into unbalance.

Let us see how this unbalance is effected. In every epoch, in the entire course of history, there may be seen an intensified confluence of resistant circumstances which produced an unbalance.

The factor of creativeness predestined as a force inducing the attainment of cosmic equilibrium, will always be impelled by the principle of the Magnet. Only the affirmation of the Origins can balance the universal correlation. The ever-disturbing motion maintains unbalance. Hence, the Origins and veneration for them will be the factor that humanity may affirm as the salvation of the world.” (Agni Yoga Collection, Infinity I § 220)

The Law of Unity is desired and designed by the Universal Mind, from that supreme Reason which is the universal motive of Harmony, “love that moves the sun and other stars” (Dante):

“In Cosmos there is a law which foresees all the best combinations. Does not the law of attraction move the striving particles. Is not the law of gravitation put in effect by the Highest Reason? When people speak about harmonization they penetrate very little into the essence of the law itself. Cosmic creativeness contains in itself the substance of the great Materia Matrix. Attraction is a property established for the expansion of Cosmos. Therefore, this law acts upon all planes, in spirit and in matter. The foundation of construction is established upon the manifestation of the better possibilities, and the creativity of spirit proceeds under the same mighty law. Hence, while the creativeness of Cosmos is put in tension by sundry factors, it should be understood that the main impulse is given by the Highest Reason. Thus is the Infinite built. Thus is the world chain built. Thus is Cosmos built.” (Agni Yoga Collection, Infinity II § 130)
