According to the unifying score of our annual Canto (see 2022 Solar Rituality and Ephemerides), from the Generator Lambdoma of the Genesis of Ideas, a philosophical attempt to “square the circle” of the absolute Life, we have:
1.7 NUMBER – Number is the Order and Name of everything
7.1 WILL – Will is the Agent of Life
This Polarity of Ideas expresses and spreads out the primary relationship between:
1.1 LIFE – Life IS
and
7.7 ORDER – Order is Freedom
At the level of abstract or fiery Thought (where the human Soul, the “body of causes” for the esoteric vision, is attested), the attempt to understand and live the quadripartite relationship between Life, Order, Number and Will is analogous to a squaring of the circle, at the center between the World of Ideas (circle) and that of Forms (square).
Ideas are real energies and living Entities, they are the powers that produce precipitates, and turning our contemplation and reflection to these Sources of events and things raises our vibration and vision of existence, a very necessary and urgent act in these times of confusion and blindness.
“Rulership is not in crowns nor in crowds, but is in the cosmic expanse of ideas.” (Community § 84, Agni Yoga Collection)
Life orders Reality according to Number, and Its Agent is Will.
Life IS. Reality is what is and exists: the Will of Life is to lead all minor entities or realities to total Freedom, to Being, and this is possible only by following and conforming to the common and harmonious Order of Number.
“The Order thrives on freedom, and true freedom is only possible in the Order.”
“We order in freedom, freeing with order.”
Here are some passages from the Teachings to substantiate our understanding:
“As Balzac, the unconscious Occultist of French literature, says somewhere, the Number is to Mind the same as it is to matter: “an incomprehensible agent;” (perhaps so to the profane, never to the Initiated mind). Number is, as the great writer thought, an Entity, and, at the same time, a Breath emanating from what he called God and what we call the ALL; the breath which alone could organize the physical Kosmos, “where naught obtains its form but through the Deity, which is an effect of Number.” It is instructive to quote Balzac’s words upon this subject: —
“The smallest as the most immense creations, are they not to be distinguished from each other by their quantities, their qualities, their dimensions, their forces and attributes, all begotten by the NUMBER? The infinitude of the Numbers is a fact proven to our mind, but of which no proof can be physically given. The mathematician will tell us that the infinitude of the numbers exists but is not to be demonstrated. God is a Number endowed with motion, which is felt but not demonstrated. As Unity, it begins the Numbers, with which it has nothing in common. . . . . The existence of the Number depends on Unity, which, without a single Number, begets them all. . . . . What! unable either to measure the first abstraction yielded to you by the Deity, or to get hold of it, you still hope to subject to your measurements the mystery of the Secret Sciences which emanate from that Deity? . . . . And what would you feel, were I to plunge you into the abysses of MOTION, the Force which organizes the Number? What would you think, were I to add that Motion and Number* are begotten by the WORD, the Supreme Reason of the Seers and Prophets, who, in days of old, sensed the mighty Breath of God, a witness to which is the Apocalypse?” (H. P. Blavatsky, The Secret Doctrine – Cosmogenesis, Vol 1, p 66-7)
* Number, truly; but never MOTION. It is Motion which begets the Logos, the Word, in occultism. (HPB footnote)
“…whenever we speak of number, had we the eyes to see it and the ears to hear it, we should see the color as well as hear the sound corresponding to such number or vibrational frequency. It is to this that Pythagoras alluded when he spoke of the majestic harmony of the spheres.
“Now as every atom in every object of nature, animate or inanimate, sings its own keynote and produces its own sound and has its own color and number, so every man, flower, tree, and every celestial body, is a play and interplay of sounds both loud and faint, interblending in a marvelous symphony, as well as being a beautiful intermingling of flashing and scintillating color.” (BLAVATSKY: COLLECTED WRITINGS. Vol. III, p. 577, Note by B. de Zirkoff)
“One of the few faculties that moderns discern in Number is order: numbers and order are similar. They do not go further, but they admit that any sorting must ultimately be based on number, which therefore, for this aspect, is recognized as an antidote to chance. The numerical ordering is perfectly adaptable to any circumstance, because first and last always coincide. Beginning and end, in higher mathematics, are a single identity, a very powerful universal equation:
BEGINNING = END
which manifests the true order, the only one possible for everything to be equal. What order would be possible if the beginning and the end were divergent?” (E. Savoini, Unpublished Writings of the 3rd Septennium. About Number, 2002)
“The Order is identified with its own purpose, which is properly the global order for the Common Good.
Order is the Will and it is the Power that exercises it. Without order there is no power and the presence of authentic power is inseparable from order.
The supreme peak of the Common Good is freedom, total and maximum for all entities, and the Order tends precisely to this single purpose without limiting it, but expanding it. Where systems without freedom operate, you always discover the presence of a pseudo-power, illegitimate, transitory and true adversary of the Common Good.” (E. Savoini, The Order, unpublished text, 1987-2001)
“Will or the energy of life are synonymous terms and are an abstraction, existing apart from all form expression. The will-to-be emerges from outside the solar system altogether. It is the all-pervading energy of God which informs with a fraction of itself the solar system, and yet remains outside.” (Alice A. Bailey, Esoteric Psychology I, p. 43)
“This energy of the will is the most potent energy in the whole scheme of planetary existence. It is called the “Shamballa Force,” and it is that which holds all things together in life. It is, in reality, life itself. This life force or divine will (implementing divine intention) is that by means of which Sanat Kumara arrives at His goal.” (Alice A. Bailey, Rays and Initiations, p. 715)
At the center, in the place of fire, we assert:
The Will is Life in action, it is the divine Number which orders and frees lives.
