The Mysteries

“Recognize the call even in the fall of the rose petal.
Life is full of calls — the fire brings you to the summit of the Mysteries”.

Ordinarily, the word Mystery evokes the impression of a dark and secret subject, or the image of complex and incomprehensible rituals and symbols that induce a certain fear or curiosity, or even the idea that these are events that confer personal power.

This is not the case: the Mysteries are hidden as they are protected by their own light and are progressively revealed to the eye of those who are able to bear their power.

In the glossary of TPS the etymology of the word Mystery has been synthesised with this formula: “The Mystery is the sacred gate of Infinity”.

It is interesting to note that the root of this term, in addition to the better known meaning: “From the Latin mysterium,‘secret religious rite’, derived from the Greek mystērion, with the same meaning, which in turn came from mystēs,‘the one who has received an initiation into the Mysteries’ […] opens to a broader vision: […] “The Mystery indicates the threshold between the articulated sound and the sonorous Silence, the door between the visible and the invisible. It is the passage through which the concrete world and the Fiery World are placed in communication, the means by which the ‘limit’ of the first becomes a ‘relationship’ with the second. The lips are pursed, but the M vibration is powerful and crosses the worlds beyond the concept of Death. The Mystery therefore essentially expresses the idea of ​​transition, through the planes and levels of Life, from the most concrete to the most subtle, real but not expressible in the manifested world, in order to grasp its relation and unity. This concept could also be represented by saying that the M of the Mother who gives life is the same as that of Death which opens up to ineffable Realities” [the Italian word for Death begins with an M…], showing us that there are actually no gates, limits nor doors in the Infinite, but simply luminous relationships that lead into ever more refined and powerful levels of being. The passage from one to the other is called Initiation.

The Mysteries therefore concern consciousness: the relationship between Spirit and Substance. From the atom to the Universe, each form veils the mystery of absolute Life and is the key to reveal it, even if it remains eternally inviolate.

The main key to the Mysteries is there for all to see and it’s Nature. It opens hearts to the wonder of creation, to the beauty of Heaven and Earth, to the power of terrestrial phenomena, to the alternation in ‘our’ sky of the Sun and the Moon, Rulers of day and night, and leads us gradually to understand that everything we see and learn to know and love is not simply outside, or inside ourselves, because there is no inside or outside in the living Space, where everything is One.

Each natural form has therefore always been seen with different eyes depending on the consciousness of the beholder: first taken for granted, then loved for its beauty, then understood as a symbol, to become aware then of its essential reality and understand that everything is “what it is”. And this is a sign of Initiation.

“Urusvati knows what initiation is. There is much confusion about this concept. Some think that initiation is the acquisition of knowledge, but it is only a path. Others think that the act of devotion in itself is initiation, but that, too, is only a path. Still others state that to be initiated is to guard a secret: even that is but a path.
Initiation is daring to approach the Image of Light and not fearing to look at It. Uniting with Light requires courage and a high degree of self-denial; this fearlessness is in itself a beautiful initiation”. […]  (Agni Yoga Series — Supermundane § 232)

Men have represented Initiation through religious rites, words, sounds, gestures, symbols aimed at celebrating the death and rebirth of the one who is initiated into gradually higher (or deeper) states of being. They are the reverberation of those “ceremonies” which actually take place on a subtle level and which set in the consciousness of the one who enters a new stage of the initiatory path the power to manage his energies in serving the world: to be Will in action. In fact, the initiate is not simply the one who knows the secrets of Life but the one who carries that fiery Light into the casket of the heart and pours it onto Humanity to serve it and bring it to salvation, thus collaborating with the Masters.

“Sooner or later, one by one, human beings are called to understand the Life that animates them. For long cycles of experience they are attracted above all to things of the physical, emotional and mental worlds, that is, to the magic of the concrete. Then they face the inner fire and learn to use it. Hence, they discover the Path, its stages and peaks; absorb the Mysteries and carry them in secret, and finally leave the human kingdom, on their way towards other functions”. (E. There are innumerable access keys to the Mysteries, but they are all referable to a septenary, in assonance with the fundamental cosmic energies: the seven Rays of Life. They are not always all available but vary according to the great cycles of the Rays, the energies prevailing in each Era, the evolutionary level of human consciousness, the Culture/Civilization established and the needs of the Plan.

In any case, the fire of the Mysteries is always the propellant that ignites the desire/willingness to search at all levels, which pushes us to explore the peaks, the oceans and the spatial depths both physical and spiritual, even with great self-sacrifice, and which causes that sacred astonishment that is generated when one understands that the great cosmic laws are analogous on all planes, that these are ringed one into the other and that “divine energy is reflected in a drop of dew”.

And it is the same fire that has always supported the emergence of the great human races and of the Cultures and Civilizations that light up and cyclically develop within them, precisely on the basis of those Mysteries that, through the initiates of every age, are translated into mental and practical achievements in the formal world. When those begin to wane, the central fire slowly retreats and, without ever extinguishing completely, remains dormant until a new Sound is emitted into Space and a new Culture begins to emerge and take root as a Civilization within Humanity.

As we know, today we find ourselves in one of these moments: the Sound that qualifies the Age of Aquarius is spreading in Space to announce the new world, while the old one fades ever more rapidly. Now we are around the culmination of that cycle which is the passage from one Era to the other and which lasts about 500 years and we already see the effects of the energy of the incoming sign, which pours into thirsty consciousnesses “the water of life”, the fiery light of the mind, the fifth Ray, which reverberates within Humanity as science and concrete knowledge. We are in fact beginning to translate into formulas and forms the three great Mysteries of the solar System latent in the physical Sun, in the subjective Sun and in the central spiritual Sun: the mystery of the electricity of substance, the mystery of polarity (or electricity of form) and the mystery of fire itself: the dynamic central systemic force, the Life that generates and multiplies itself.

From the second half of the nineteenth century, in accordance with the spread of the Teaching of H. P. Blavatsky, physical light was switched on in the world, defeating the long darkness of the nights, and applied in the most diverse ways, greatly improving human existence. In the first half of the twentieth century electric light spread all over the world, together with the possibility to communicate from afar and speed up transports, hand in hand with the effort of the Masters to transmit a foundation of Teachings in support of the evolution of the common consciousness (we can mention those of the Tibetan Master and the Agni Yoga, received by A. A. Bailey and H. Roerich).

The secret of the electrical energy of Life, its central fire, is what is revealed at the third Initiation, the Group initiation, the way of the new era to increase the power of spiritual light within Humanity and this has something to do with atomic energy, discovered in the 1940s, motivated by a terrible world war.

The second half of the last century saw world disciples as protagonists who have grown in quality and quantity, applying the Teachings received and learning to better manage electrical and atomic energies, while scientists and technicians were particularly committed to speeding up communications, to the point of being able to connect “in real time” all the people of the globe, a significant element in order to go beyond the tendency to separate of the mind and feed the thought of the One Humanity, ordered and collaborating, which is the goal of the Age of Aquarius.

It is clear that this ease of communication that weaves luminous links between disciples, bringing out “the Server of Humanity”, has a “downside” that they must take upon themselves, flanking the Hierarchy, placing themselves as a bulwark against the forces of evil, which have their way more easily as well, and carefully watching over the use of energies, so that the common Good may prevail.

If we recognise, just in these simple signs, the prodromes of the “new which is advancing”, we can simply open our hearts to the Light and Beauty of the future (the fourth Ray is also about to rise!) and “protect the eyes”, since subjective light will begin to circulate in the world and to produce those changes which will determine an initiation not only for humans but also for our beloved Earth.

Let us therefore listen, in our interior silence, to the sound of the footsteps of the great Initiator who comes, on our way to meet Him.

“Perception of an earthquake at a distance resembles the sensing of thought at a distance. Likewise the energy apprehends and registers each vibration, from the very greatest manifestation to the falling of a rose petal.
