Love and Harmony

Today we celebrate the conjunction between Jupiter, the Luminary who conveys solar Love-Wisdom, and Mercury, the solar Messenger who refracts the central light of the Sun into Space, reflecting in all hearts the Model of models, universal Harmony, the Art of living in truth, goodness and beauty: the interval between Love and Harmony.

Let us here consider the interval as that psychic, living entity that is generated by the relationship between two sounds, although the concept can be extended infinitely, applying to all fields that man can perceive. If we consider all relations as intervals, we can think of the world of intervals as the world of Consciousness, intermediary between Substance and Spirit.

“Interval means Consciousness. In the infinite and living Space all the elementary charges of Fire (the Points) are in reciprocal relation with all the other. This infinite field of relationship is the universal consciousness…”1.

This Consciousness is a correlation between the subjective aspect, inner and real, and the objective aspect, outer and illusory, between the vital Fire and form, and contains within itself the true Art of harmonious exchanges between all creatures, children of Life and Space.

This living and infinite Space is the primordial and intelligent Substance of which everything is made. It is the Chalice that contains Life, the Fire that manifests itself in the manifold creatures as petals of light exhaling the perfume of Love. And Love weaves ever more golden and harmonious relationships, lessening distinctions and progressively bringing the manifold back to the One.

The cosmic Heart beating in systole and diastole abundantly distributes the sonorous and luminous flow of Life. It is also called Mother of the World, universal magnetic field, cosmic Love, absolute Octave.

“Love is… the relation, the interplay and the union between God and His universe, between man and God, between a man and his own soul… The motive and the relation are emphasized. But the impelling result of that relation is creation and the manifestation of form through which divinity can express itself and come to be. Spirit and matter met together, and the manifested universe came into being. Love is ever productive, and the Law of Attraction is fruitful in results. Man and God came together under the same great Law, and the Christ [the Christ Principle, Buddhi, Love-Wisdom] was born,—the guarantee of the divinity of humanity and the demonstration of the fact.”2

“Each son of God can say: I am born of the love of the Father for the Mother, of the desire of life for form. I express, therefore, the love and the magnetic attractiveness of the God nature, and the responsiveness of the form nature, and am consciousness itself, aware of Deity or Life.”3

Contemplating the night sky in which our elder Brothers and Sisters dance in harmonic correlations, radiating their essence, imbued with the Will-to-Good, allows us to recognise the Model through which Life is transmitted from the One to the multiplicity of forms in manifestation: receiving and giving, invoking and evoking, golden correlations.

“Think of the stars that always give their light to humanity.
Be like these stars and give your love, wisdom, and knowledge to others.”4

For Love is that Silence in which quality, that colours all forms, sings, interweaving with its melodies the relationships, or intervals, true psychic entities capable of reacting and influencing the environment, just as a sound interval transmits its power and quality into space: infinite symmetries and resonances that unfold life in the fruitful waters of manifestation.

The Teaching often speaks of “right relationships”, suggesting that there is a way to realise Unity, the loving communion between all relationships, according to a right canon of balance and beauty, a golden relation, reproducing the sound of universal Harmony.

The Greeks, great masters of Beauty, used the term Harmony to express the “perfect balance” of the human being, both in terms of physical and spiritual state, which produced a noble lifestyle.

“To you is revealed the miracle of creating harmony in life.”5

This idea of Harmony is at the heart of Pythagoreanism. Music was the method of elevation and purification of the soul and at the same time the object of an intellectual contemplation that revealed, with its congruencies expressible through numerical relations, the deepest harmony of the cosmos.

The Pythagorean doctrine of the Harmony of the Spheres is the quintessence of the beauty that explains the divine Cosmos, harmonised in a marvellous way through the concordance of the arithmetic and musical proportions played by the celestial bodies (vehicles of expression of cosmic Intelligences) with their movements; harmonious musical tones whose combination produced a magnificent permanent melody: “The Music of the Spheres”.

As Iamblichus recounts (Life of Pythagoras XV.65):

“Pythagoras, however, did not procure for himself a thing of this kind through instruments or the voice, but employing a certain ineffable divinity, and which it is difficult to apprehend, he extended his ears, and fixed his intellect in the sublime symphonies of the world, he alone hearing and understanding, as it appears, the universal harmony and consonance of the spheres, and the stars that are moved through them, and which produce a fuller and more intense melody than any thing effected by mortal sounds. This melody also was the result of dissimilar and variously differing sounds, celerities, magnitudes, and intervals…”.

Kepler was inspired by this in his search for the harmony of planetary motions and, indeed, a fervent combination of Pythagorean mysticism and meticulous experimentation enabled him to come up with his famous Laws.

Leibnitz too, in his work Monadology, believed that “the universe has sufficient harmony for all the species and elements forming it to exist and coexist both individually and collectively with or without influences between them”.

For “Compassion is no attribute. It is the Law of laws—eternal Harmony, Alaya’s Self; a shoreless universal essence, the light of everlasting Right, and fitness of all things, the law of love eternal.”6

Thus, in the infinite field of Space, of the Christ Principle or Love-Wisdom manifesting in the Universe, fiery hearts contemplate and imitate in order to love the Infinite and its limitless symmetries, drawn by that impelling energy of constant ascent that resolves divergencies, transforming them into harmonious parts that embrace in ardent synthesis, producing a new, subtler sound, closer to the Centre.

May Humanity, merging heaven and earth, reflect the beauty of Infinity!

I am in the Heart of Christ

I love the infinite spatial symmetries
