Today we solemnly celebrate the Sun entering the Sign of Virgo (1), the energy that safeguards the Christ consciousness and is a symbol of the spatial Infinity that contains everything.
Virgo expresses its power by stimulating the soul concealed within the form, nourishing and enlivening it while waiting for “the womb of time” to give birth to the divine design at the appointed hour.
“In Virgo, the Christ life or consciousness is hidden and the Christ Child is as yet embryonic in the womb of matter and of time, and during this stage, the emphasis is upon the form which veils and hides the reality. The human soul and the divine soul (the essential duality) are there but their presence is not easily detected.” (Alice A. Bailey – Esoteric Astrology, p. 318)
On the occasion of the Sun’s luminous entrance into Virgo, let us sound forth with love into the living Space, as one planetary Server, the Christic assertion associated with this Sign (see the introductory article).
I am the Son of Man
In the Old Testament, the term “Son of Man” referred to Humanity as a whole, as the Psalms testify: “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”. (The Bible – Psalms, 8)
In the Gospels, Christ is often referred to as the Son of Man to signify his redemptive and charismatic mission, as well as to highlight his dual nature, human and divine: “The Son of God is also the Son of Man! This fact has, perhaps, been forgotten in the emphasis laid upon His divinity. That divinity is there, and nothing can touch or hide it; it is radiance and pure white light. But the manhood is there also, a guarantee to us of our opportunity and of our potentialities, an endorsement of our faith.” (Alice A. Bailey – From Bethlehem to Calvary, p. 55);
“No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.” (Gospel according to John, 3; 13);
“For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Gospel according to Mark, 10; 45).
Consciousness, or the soul, is concealed within a form and must be recognised in its essence; Virgo represents that welcoming and nurturing “field” that, through growth achieved by means of experience, enables the discovery of each person’s “inherent divinity”, gradually recognising its value and power.
“The latent soul is becoming interiorly active; a germination process is proceeding; the hidden man is making his presence felt. The intellect is awakening and instinct—after passing through the emotional stage—is being transmuted into intellect.” (Alice A. Bailey – Esoteric Astrology, p. 119)
“The Christ to whom the Virgin must eventually give birth is recognised as present in the womb, though not yet born. Life is recognised. The process of the revelation of the Christ consciousness is carried intelligently forward and the selfish aspirations and experiments of the undeveloped man give place to the selflessness of the illumined and intuitive disciple.” (Ibidem, p. 121)
The expressions “Son of God” and “Son of Man” indicate the dual nature of every man, divine and human, heavenly and earthly at the same time, which recognises in Christ its Model; every man must “give birth” to this divinity of his by imitating Christ whose mission was to become man in order to manifest and bear witness to divinity through His works.
“… man passes from glory to glory until the omniscient cosmic Son of God can be seen, expressing Himself through every son of man.” (Alice A. Bailey – From Bethlehem to Calvary, p. 50)
“… we must learn to serve as Christ served, to love all men as He loved them and, by the potency of our spiritual vitality and the quality of our service, stimulate all we meet so that they too can serve and love and become members of the kingdom.” (Ibidem, p. 284)
“Pure service flourishes if its roots are deep and strong.” (Agni Yoga Series, Leaves of Morya’s Garden I – The Call § 118)
The 2nd Ray, with which the Christ is imbued, as are we, presents and summarises in itself the characteristics of Space and its law, which is Love: these characteristics have been manifested by the Christ so that we ourselves, following in his footsteps, can leave “footprints of good”.
These statements highlight the main qualities of the Ray of Love:
“I cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one who sent me.” (Gospel according to John, 5; 30)
“I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” (Ibidem 13; 34)
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (Ibidem, 8; 12)
“The Son of Man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him, and three days after his death he will rise.” (Gospel according to Mark, 9; 31)
“Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, [Jesus] said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to [his] disciples to set before the people; he also divided the two fish among them all.” (Ibidem, 6; 41)
“Jesus came… Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” (Gospel according to John, 20; 27-29)
“Jesus raised his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you for hearing me”. (…) And when he had said this, he cried out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, tied hand and foot with burial bands, and his face was wrapped in a cloth.” (Ibidem, 11; 41-44)
Jupiter, the vehicle of the 2nd Ray, is the instrument that “opens the door of the womb” in Virgo (of which it is Hierarchical Ruler), so that the Christ principle that inhabits the substance can be seen; many are the gifts that this Luminary brings forth: Good, Communion and Beauty.
“As through a magnifying glass behold the good, and belittle tenfold the signs of imperfection, lest you remain as you always were.” (Agni Yoga Series, Leaves of Morya’s Garden I – The Call § 32)
“In your bosom cherish thoughts of service towards Good.” (Ibidem § 320)
“The miracle of Beauty in the adornment of our daily lives will exalt mankind. (…) Teach the Joy of Beauty.” (Ibidem § 45)
“Rather than regard the heart as personal property, it is preferable to convince oneself that the heart is not entirely one’s own organ but has been granted one for attainment of the highest communion.” (Agni Yoga Series, Heart § 389)
“Look upon the hours of Communion as a prayer… If a person’s thought does not run counter to the good, it means that the Gates of Wellbeing are open. This is the hygiene of the heart that is most necessary.” (Ibidem § 90)
