Sparks of the laws of the Higher World have been generously strewn over the bosom of Earth. It is possible to gather them as the most precious treasures. Amid such harvests, all becomes beautiful. The highest goal-fitness adorns the coordinations of a free will that understands the complete coherence of the working parts. Verily, all life becomes a fulfillment of useful tasks entrusted by higher thought. Not groveling toil, but heroic conquest will be the mark of Love, the victorious! (Agni Yoga Series, Aum § 201)
(…) Is it possible without love to speak of signs about thought, about the Mystery, about Light? Mystery will turn into concealment, thought into scheming, and the Light into a firebrand; it is possible thus to distort the most Beautiful. But the true path achieved through love admits of no sacrilege. That which is visionary is turned into reality; the clamor of bargaining will find its proper place; man will realize the significance of solemnity. Thus will Great Service begin to shine. (Agni Yoga Series, Aum § 159)
Only through love (and service as the expression of love) can the real message of Christ be understood and men pass on towards a joyful resurrection. Love makes us humbler, and at the same time wiser. It penetrates to the heart of reality and has a faculty of discovering the truth hidden by a form. The early Christians were simple in this way because they loved one another, because they loved Christ and the Christ within each other. (Alice A. Bailey, From Bethlehem to Calvary, p. 233)
In the books of Alice A. Bailey, concerning the Great Invocation we read that its beauty and strength lies… in its expression of certain central truths:
- the truth of the existence of a basic Intelligence to Whom we vaguely give the name of God;
- the truth that behind all outer seeming, the motivating power of the universe is Love;
- the truth that a great Individuality, called by Christians the Christ, came to earth and embodied that love so that we could understand;
- the truth that both love and intelligence are effects of what is called the Will of God;
- and finally, the self-evident truth that only through humanity itself can the divine plan work out.
Here then is humanity’s first great task: to understand, live and act upon the Love and Wisdom expressed by the great Master.
On the subject of love, the founding father of psychosynthesis, Roberto Assagioli, wrote:
(…) Love is one of the most widespread aspects of life, one of the feelings of the most universal activities, yet it is perhaps the least understood and about which there are the most misunderstandings and confusions and the most serious mistakes are made… but this should not be too surprising when one considers that love has cosmic origin, nature and functions. It is often something overwhelming that dominates and subdues the individual and has very different and apparently contradictory inner and outer manifestations: there is physical love and spiritual love… a love in which the individual seems to lose himself and a love in which he seems to find himself…
To be able to bring some order and light to these contrasts, love must be included in the great spiritual conception of life. Only in this way will it be possible to penetrate the mystery to some extent.
The Teachings addressed towards this idea, affirm that there is an original undifferentiated Unity, the Absolute, the Transcendent, the Immanifest from which the manifestation, the differentiation, considered as the projection, emanation, and self-objectification of the Supreme has proceeded.
The Transcendent One, the Life, the Whole, the All entered into communion with Itself and by this act became a vital point of life and focussed power.
I am and I am not. Greater than This is That; smaller than That is This. But That must show to This the nature of the whole, and showing prove itself unto Itself.
I, the beginning am. I am the outward and the inward Way and back into the point of concentration and from the point I turn again unto Myself, carrying within my heart of love that which I, the One, have served and that for which I sacrifice Myself. (from the Old Commentary in Esoteric Astrology, p. 616)
An immense cosmic process gave rise to duality: the One became the Two. The first fundamental differentiation and relationship between them took place… and exchanges, impulses and reactions began which resulted, as a consequence of this vital attraction, in the creation, the manifestation of the universe… in subsequent differentiations, ever more concrete and material planes and levels of life and increasingly limited states of consciousness until the present state of maximum division, splitting and dispersion between creatures, understood in the widest sense. But in creatures there is, in various ways and to varying degrees, the memory of primitive unity, the sense of the common origin and an unconscious but powerful longing to return ‘home’…
Thus, little by little, man learns to love the increasingly broad veiled, concrete, individualised manifestations of divinity… he begins to love those human beings in whom something divine, something spiritual, is manifested to a more or less remarkable degree: the heroes of humanity, the geniuses, the saints, the divine men like Buddha and Christ.
In this way, that sense of original, superior, transcendent unity, at first perceived with surprise and misinterpreted, reveals itself more and more clearly… it is the aspiration towards the Spirit, the love for Divinity as Supreme Reality, as the Union of everything and everyone. (1)
It is Love, therefore, that keeps everything in ordered sequence, that bears all on the path of return to the Father’s bosom, and that eventually perfects all that is.
It is love that builds the forms that cradle temporarily the inner hidden life, and love is the cause of the disruption of those forms, and their utter shattering, so that the life may further progress. (Alice A. Bailey, A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p. 594)
And as the Master of Agni Yoga states: Great Love is laid in the foundation of the Higher World. Only a similar love responds to this quality. The most manifested reverence will not reach its destination without love. What is devotion without love? Can there be fieriness in a withered heart? Following a manifestation of love, there can be expected commensurateness with the Higher World. Each subject can be studied only with love. Each difficulty can be conquered by the power of love. Verily, great Love lies in the foundation of the Higher World! (Agni Yoga Series, Aum § 80)
It is now worthwhile to bring to the heart’s remembrance these notes from the document on the Genesis of Ideas, which are very helpful in order to illuminate the fundamental elements of Love:
Sacrifice is the power of Love
Achievement is ever followed by sacrifice and the giving of the greater for the lesser. This is an aspect of the Law of Evolution. Such is the note and theme of the entire creative process and is the basic meaning of the phrase, “God is Love”, for love signifies giving and sacrifice, at least in this solar system. (Alice A. Bailey — The Externalisation of the Hierarchy, p. 166)
Simplicity is the essential virtue of Love
Simplicity and unity are related; simplicity is one-pointedness of outlook, free from glamour and the intricacies of the thoughtform-making mind; simplicity is clarity of purpose and steadfastness in intention and in effort, untrammelled by questioning and devious introspection; simplicity leads to simple loving, asking nothing in return; simplicity leads to silence—not silence as an escape mechanism, but as an “occult retention of speech”.
Simplicity connotes the blueprint which “substands” the outer structure of creation, of living, of loving and of service, and this is true of a solar system, a planet, humanity or the individual. (Alice A. Bailey — Discipleship in the New Age vol. II, p. 518-519)
Wisdom is the divine intelligence of Love
The term [philosophy] is composed of two Greek words whose meaning is intended to convey its secret sense, and ought to be interpreted as “wisdom of love”. Now it is in the last word, “love”, that lies hidden the esoteric significance: for “love” does not stand here as a noun, nor does it mean “affection” or “fondness”, but is the term used for Eros, that primordial principle in divine creation… It means “divine love”, that universal element of divine omnipresence spread throughout Nature and which is at once the chief cause and effect. The “wisdom of love” (or “philosophia”) meant attraction to and love of everything hidden beneath objective phenomena and the knowledge thereof. (Helena P. Blavatsky — The Secret Doctrine, vol. III, Section XXVIII)
Cohesion is the unifying energy of Love
By the bringing together of spirit and matter (Father-Mother) in the macrocosm, and their union through the action of the will, the objective solar system, or the Son, was produced—that Son of desire, Whose characteristic is love, and Whose nature is buddhi or spiritual wisdom. By the bringing together (in microcosm) of Spirit and matter, and their coherence by means of force (or the spiritual will) that objective system, the causal body, is being produced; it is the product of transmuted desire, whose characteristic (when fully demonstrated) will be love, the expression eventually on the physical plane of buddhi. (Alice A. Bailey — A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p. 179)
(…) For the positive central life of every form is but an expression of cosmic buddhi, and the downpouring of a love which has its source in the Heart of the Solar Logos; this is itself an emanating principle from the One above our Logos, He of Whom naught may be said. (Alice A. Bailey — A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p. 1226)
Cohesion is also plainly to be seen as the distinguishing feature of our present system, the second. It is the aim of all things to unite; approximation, unification, a simultaneous attraction between two or more is ever to be seen as a governing principle… Well might we say that the At-one-ment of the many separated is the keynote of our system. (Alice A. Bailey — A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p. 579)
Wisdom is the golden expression of Love
Man comes forth, as do all lives within the radius of influence of a solar system, upon the inspiration of love, expressed in wisdom. Love is not a sentiment. Love is the great principle of attraction, of desire, of magnetic pull, and (within our solar system) that principle demonstrates as the attraction and the interplay between the pairs of opposites. (Alice A. Bailey — Esoteric Psychology vol. I, p. 336)
(…) Love and Wisdom are equal. (Agni Yoga Series, Leaves of Morya’s Garden, The Call § 28)
Sacredness is adherence to divine Love
Besides many definitions of the word Aum let us recollect that: A is Thought—the Basis; U is Light—the Primary Cause; M is Mystery—the Sacred. (Agni Yoga Series, Aum § 132)
That which is most sacred surrounds the concept of Brotherhood. (Brotherhood, introductory note)
(…) When humanity ejected the concept of the most sacred principle, the reign of repulsion was established. There is no corner on the planet where there is not repulsion. The world created by the heart through the principle of fusion will create through cosmic attraction. The cosmic attraction and the blended heart create the manifested beauty of Be-ness. The law should be accepted in life. In life it is manifested, and through life it must pass. The beauty of cosmic magnetism can bestow this understanding. (Infinity I § 116)
How are We to explain, when the heart is silent? How are We to speed things up, when the heart is heavier than iron? How are We to move a heart that has died in spirit? Yet it is possible to learn to value every reverberation of the heart, when the secret flower manifests a multitude of petals that guard the treasure deep within the spirit. (Heart § 31)
Love is the universal Motive
(…) This lever of the Fire of Space is manifested everywhere… Throughout the limitless consciousness the Hand of the Lords acts… Is not the concept of the Creator affirmed by straight-knowledge in the spring of eternally flowing love? To us is manifested the symbol—the spring of love.
Eternally moving, eternally striving, eternally aspiring to the heights, eternally manifesting vigilance, affirming Truth, manifesting the radiant thread of the Mother of the World by the armor of infinite beauty, assailing the darkness of ignorance, promising to the abode of humanity the glory of the stars—thus walk, saying, “World, I wish to accept all thy gifts; I wish to fill to the brim the chalice of attainment; I wish, O Lord, to drain the chalice of the Wisdom of Thy Covenants!” (Agni Yoga Series, Infinity I § 7)
And in the Comments to Infinity – part I § 7, by Enzio Savoini, we read:
Space, Infinity, love are interconnected. One does not set out on the beautiful adventure without love; only through love does one step out into the immense, into the boundless. And only fresh, new love protects the pupil so committed and leads him.
The words chosen and proposed by the Master to shape his behaviour are so beautiful and perfect… If the heart opens to welcome and cherish them, victory cannot be missed.
I perceive the enemies will be destroyed by miraculous fire. The time for action is but begun. Comprehend devotion, faith, and courage. I will safeguard you with a helmet of faith, an armor of devotion, and a shield of victory. And on the banner will be inscribed: Love, the Conqueror. (Agni Yoga Series, Leaves of Morya’s Garden — The Call § 299)

Note: This article is published on the occasion of today’s heliocentric conjunction, in the 7th sector of Pisces, between the Earth, the “sphere of experience”, and Neptune, the sacred Guardian of the World of Ideas and of the Solar Temple, whose salvific embrace purifies, sanctifies and raises consciousnesses to the Father. Neptune, the most peripheral of the sacred Luminaries, the God of spatial Waters, the One who delimits the solar Community, extending it to the Infinite according to the first rule of every sacred Communion, represents on a systemic level the infinite capacity of the Desire for universal union. Neptune is the Guardian of the 6th Ray of abstract Devotion and Idealism. The sixth Ray of devotion and the sixth law of love have a close alliance… On the astral plane, the home of the desires, originate those feelings which we call personal love… The astral plane is, at the present time, the most important for us, for in desire—not corrected or transmuted—lies the difference between the personal consciousness and that of the Ego.
