New World Religion

In this pivotal year of the Sixth Septennium of our Sowing for a new human Order, we celebrate the heliocentric Date/Direction marked by Neptune (Lord of the 6^th Ray and for Esoteric Astrology the solar Source of every impulse of Union, Communion and Synthesis) entering the initiatory Sign of Aries, after 164 years (the period of his revolutionary cycle).

Here, then, is a text of reflections on the subject of the New World Religion, which will unite all peoples in a free and ordered manner:

“Foreword.

At the dawn of a new Time, on the threshold of the Age of Aquarius, it is good to reformulate in our consciousnesses the Idea of Religion. It is indeed customary and common to identify it with the churches or religious ideologies formed over centuries and millennia; but the essence of this Idea goes far beyond, as its etymon, summarised here, reveals:

A single mother root would have given rise to both the verb rě-lěgěre, “to grasp” the divine message, and the verb re-ligare, “to bind, to have a connection” with the divine: Religion expresses the concept of recognition of and connection to divine laws.

The term re-ligio comes from the Indo-European root *LAG-, which is made up of the following sound elements: “motion that holds [l] in every direction [ag]”, “collect”, “connect”, “tie”. From ag comes Agni, the god of fire who originally personified the glow of lightning, the zigzag motion of the flame.

The word “religion” therefore, in which the flicker of flame sparkles, essentially indicates the cosmic connection between spatial fires, the universal spirit that unifies everything.

Religion is unifying and everything that unifies is religious:

“Whence came the engulfing wave that obscured the consciousness? Religare was pronounced even in antiquity. The property of causativeness and resultantness—the law of concatenation of the Universe—applies to this same manifestation of a bond with Infinity. Humanity is bound to the Cosmos by inseverable bonds. It is not difficult to establish that immutable point where all things meet—where the earthly accumulations meet the strata of higher spheres. By the Will of Cosmos all things are attracted to each other. All strives toward mutual creation. Religare is bestowed on humanity in the form of a religion for unification, for the development of community, for the avowal of the Primary Source, which contains all principles of Being and which creates all substances for our good. The concatenation of the Universe with all higher spheres should be adopted by the consciousness as a saving anchor in the advancement of the higher foundations of the future.” (Agni Yoga Series – Infinity I § 23)

Why is it, we might ask, that faith in a creator Spirit of the Cosmos has been relegated mostly to religious beliefs? Why does man believe that the Divine or Spirit is a more religious than a scientific “subject”? Why does a universal Law such as, for example, gravitation, when defined as ‘Law of divine Attraction’, seem to take on a less objective, or even non-objective quality?

Today’s scientific thinking, and even ordinary ‘secular’ thinking, argues that it is because its true understanding is clouded by something smoky, not ‘evident’ to everyone, hence by a subjective, questionable belief. God “is not reproducible in the laboratory”, he is not demonstrable according to parameters valid for all, therefore for official science he cannot be a reality, but only an individual hypothesis and guidance.

The human mind of our times delegates its power of discovery and understanding of the Unknown to a physical reproducibility, to a consistency between hypothesis and thesis based on material, sensory evidence.

Symmetrically, many ‘worshippers’ believe in an all-powerful God, who can do all things, but who has the ‘defect’ (sic!) of not using his power properly when he tolerates the myriad atrocities committed every day or allows serious illnesses in children or does not solve our personal misfortunes: such a God sends scourges and catastrophes to punish not only sinners, but also the good and innocent. Why?!

This is not meant to trivialise millennia of religiosity, philosophy and theology, nor to belittle human tragedies, but rather to recognise the evolutionary need for our thinking to expand and deepen with respect to the inner and spiritual sphere.

In this sense, the indications of the Ancient Wisdom, in particular of the trans-Himalayan occult Tradition made public in the West through theosophy since the end of the 19^th century, are helpful, as they provide analogical hypotheses of thought, and not fideistic dogmas; systems of perspectives, rather than syllogistic inductions – to be developed in the subjective laboratory, in the crucible of consciousness so that they can then become subjectively objective, factual data.

New World Religion, Universal Brotherhood, liberation, higher consciousness, spiritual communion, love expressed through wisdom, right human relations, new Solar Culture, collaboration with the ‘far-off worlds’, new planetary Order… Innumerable are the names of the common Good to all mankind, and every Heart instantly recognises their sound or unitary value. Only that which is good, beautiful and true is ‘common good’, the goal and the treasure, the only possible possession. The Heart knows this.
