The Voice of Silence

Silence may be teeming with voices and darkness may be suffused with light. Hence, he who regards Space as empty will not apprehend the mighty life manifested in silence as the highest Word of Cosmos, nor the invisible as the manifest Eye of Cosmos. The law of Cosmos is inviolable, and even man has accepted the Voice of Silence. Where speech is meager, the voice of the heart affirms silence. Cosmos in silence makes manifest the language of the heart, and the Cosmic Voice may become audible.
Sensitiveness and vigilance can aid us in giving ear to the Voice of Silence. The beauty of Cosmos is manifested in silence. The beauty of silence is expressed in all the higher manifestations of life.
Let us learn to harken to silence! The infinitude of Cosmos creates the manifestation of the Silence. (Agni Yoga – Infinity I § 80)

There is but one road to the Path; at its very end alone the “Voice of the Silence” can be heard… Before the soul can comprehend and may remember, she must unto the Silent Speaker be united just as the form to which the clay is modelled, is first united with the potter’s mind. For then the soul will hear, and will remember. And then to the inner ear will speak— THE VOICE OF THE SILENCE. (Helena Petrovna Blavatsky – The Voice of Silence)

May I add, that the sound is only truly potent when the disciple has learnt to subordinate the lesser sounds. Only as the sounds he sends forth normally into the three worlds are reduced in volume and in activity, as well as in quantity will it be possible for the Sound to be heard, and so to accomplish its purpose. Only as the multitude of spoken words is reduced, and silence in speech is cultivated, will it be possible for the Word to make its power felt on the physical plane. Only when the many voices of the lower nature and of our environment are silenced, will the “Voice that speaketh in the stillness” make its presence felt. With the gaze of our hearts turned towards the heliocentric heavens, today we celebrate the conjunction in the electrifying waters of Aquarius, the sign that tunes us into the new and outlines the contours of future forms, between Mercury, Lord of Harmony, the Magister Musicæ who connects and harmonises the High and the Low, the herald who tirelessly reflects the higher Model in all the hearts of the System, and Pluto, Guardian of the First Ray Energy, the Destroyer of all that impedes synthesis, the Reformer par excellence. The harmonious and breakthrough energy that springs from their encounter provokes a profound renewal, aimed at raising the consciousness of all lives in the solar System in the Beauty of the Future, at showing different and exciting paths, at allowing Life embedded in substance to start a new cycle. And any process of regeneration can only begin in recollection and silence!

“To Know, to Will, to Dare and to be Silent.”
It might be of value briefly to enumerate some of the reasons why secrecy is enjoined upon all Initiates, and why therefore all disciples have to cultivate the quality of silence, preparatory to learning the nature of “Occult Reticence”… Conscious silence is enjoined upon a disciple also for the following reasons:
a. Silence develops in him knowledge of motives through the considerations of the reasons for speech and the need for reticence.
b. Silence develops in him the quality of interior meditation and the capacity to hear its voice.
c. Silence serves to teach him the process of the conservation of energy and the storing up of force for the service of man-kind.
d. Silence engenders in him the ability to preserve equilibrium and enables him to cultivate the realisation of conscious alignment with the Ego, his own Inner Divinity.

“Be silent, O strings, that a new melody may come to me,” says a hymn of the Greek Mysteries. Such rebirth of spiritual harmony is not a “void,” as it is sometimes called. To open the heart does not mean to devastate it; on the contrary, when the last reverberation of the chord dies out, let the striving of the spirit immediately become more acute, in order to reach a more exalted harmony. One Response to The Voice of Silence

  1. Gillian Douglas says:

Educational systems should include making students aware that silence is the ‘go to’ mode when there is nothing useful to say. It is in silence that we can be contacted by Higher thoughts.
