The first aspect of the seventh energy

In this year 5.7, the last of the fifth seven-year period of the Plan, whose Goal is the “Creative Liturgy of the Group and of the Work”, we intend to focus on the seven aspects of the seventh creative energy, which manifests itself as Order, Ritual and Ceremonial Magic, publishing excerpts from “The Book of Rituals” (whose translation is underway).

Foreword

«The seventh quality of Life binds together Spirit and Substance.»

Through the intervention of the seventh Quality, forms come to life, anywhere in the Universe. It acts freely but according to the law, with love, in Space, following a programme, in beauty, with multiple measures but faithful to a single Model. From its so regular activity a living Order is born, an order which is added, without getting confused with it, to the eternal Order.

The seventh Fire could not perform such a prodigy without the cooperating action of the other six; but these would not attain the purpose without its seal.

The seventh Virtue acts from both inside and outside, so its products are visible and invisible. It is active everywhere and at all times, it can be sometimes in evidence or unnoticed. The coming era will see the blooming of the incandescent flowers of its magic, which is already being heralded.

It is therefore right to study its nature and processes, and prepare vessels to collect it from Heaven.

FIRST ASPECT OF THE SEVENTH ENERGY

«The seventh divine energy unites Spirit and Substance.»

We wanted to rewrite this sentence to impress in the reader’s memory, with the least number of words, the fundamental truth that eludes the man buried in his daily fragmentation. In times that seem remote nowadays, human existence was at ease in perceiving the divine relationship between the visible and the invisible, which, not being separated from each other, are co-present in every act and thing of nature.

Today, for various reasons, man’s life is spent in a fever of almost always futile research, since he has lost the idea of ​​the Centre, so that he accepts as normal, finding it obvious, the indifferent silence of Heaven. All his endeavours tend towards peripheral spots, and he goes in search of the Grail, without even knowing it, in the most remote places. A pitiful thing, supposing that the Centre, to which he devotes little attention in any case, is hidden in some distant ravine of space.
This confusion derives from having closed his eyes a long time ago, so much so that now he does not remember having done so, and lives blindly, believing he can see.

Yet Nature, the great Teacher, now repeats her prayer as always: none of the flowers that adore the Sun have ceased to follow its celestial orbit. Every morning and every spring, divine love triumphs and spreads all over the world, ignored, in known and blatant hours, and washes and cleanses it – today as in the past. And men are well aware of the life that animates them, namely of the sacred union between spirit and substance; yet they do not think about it and prefer to profane works and things.

Union is the purpose of the last emanation, the seventh one – and at the same time it is its necessity. If the visible world were truly disjointed from the invisible, the whole manifestation would be foolishness, darkness and death. Such an impossible separation is present only in the misused reasoning of contemporary man. The divine energy that perennially unites the two opposite polarities of existence is not secret; on the contrary, it is the most obvious of all, but it is only perceived on the border between centre and periphery, right where the intellect is powerless.

While uniting, the seventh Lord unties. If it constrains life into form and ensures the relationship between this and that, it is not to close, but to open. In fact, Life spiritualises Substance, the Supreme Fire ignites the spatial one, and everything is resolved in union, that is, in the Essence, which is the One.

The first Ray originates all processes, and the seventh one concludes them. They are both great initiatory factors and the energy passes from one to the other, so that, as it is repeated even without understanding it, beginning and end always and everywhere coincide. For this reason it can be said that the One closes when it generates a new opening, and that the Seven initiates when apparently closing that opening.

The first aspect of the Rite, which manifests the Seven, is seen in its serene constancy: it is in fact the Rule that remains unaltered no matter how much its forms vary. The latter adapt, flexing according to the circumstances (which seem to dominate them), but the Rite is always necessary as a last seal. This is evident in the initiatory ceremonies, which close what was open and open what was closed (as already mentioned). Although expressed in the most diverse languages, the formulas that enshrine that secret passage have the same value among all peoples and in all ages.

The seventh Ray energies ring out as commands. They are precise and rhythmic. They are born in the silence that prepares them, in the mystery, they mark geometric and ordered spaces and sublimate things. However sharp and abrupt those commands may be, they do not hurt, since they do not build separate or non-communicating orders; on the contrary, they organise similarities wherever they are found, however distant and estranged they seem. In truth what unites Spirit and Substance can never fuel separations.

The seventh Lord returns to the Father’s House, but leads a crowd of Pilgrims – and at the same time departs from them, at the head of an army which he leads into battle. He defends his lands, which have no limits, and the innumerable creatures that dwell there; and watches over their destinies, which he gradually reduces to one.

These phrases want to represent the first power of the ritual. They could have been different, of course: the joy of the mystery lies precisely in this. Where did they come from?
