The ancient Greeks used to call Mercury with the name of Στίλβων (Stilbon), “the brilliant”, while Venus, as the morning star, was called Φωσφόρος (Phosphoros), “the light bearer”.
Light, therefore, is the primary element which unites these two Luminaries and which today, on the occasion of their heliocentric conjunction [1] in the fruitful substance of Taurus, shines with greater intensity because it is enlivened by the fiery impulse of Vulcan that spreads it out into the systemic Space as the “rhythmic motion of Fire”.
An ardent rhythm that supports, in Humanity, the work of building a New Culture: the future that mankind will shape with the power of creative thought in order to generate fruits of good will have to be interwoven with this light.
“Thought is the Raja of all that exists. Beauty is born through the lightning of thought” [2]; “How to awaken creativity? By the desire for beauty”. [3]
And what better image than the blazing of the light to outline the contours of Beauty, the canon of every possible manifestation, executed to perfection, in a workmanlike manner!
“Through Beauty thou hast Light”, suggests the Teaching with a radiant voice. [4]
We have repeatedly emphasised that Beauty, as the face of the Absolute that is mirrored into the finite and into matter, creates in us a moment of “discontinuity”, that is “a transcendental experience” (however contradictory it may seem).
This discontinuity is an explosion of pure light, it is the flame of intuition that reconnects us to the Origin, it is the power of the creative fire that drives every vibrant consciousness into action: “The yogi acts, and the action itself is transformed into beauty”. [5]
Such an action is the guarantor and model of every right construction, it is the seal placed on the stones that will support the Temple of Humanity. The New Culture will be born of the loving relationship between Venus and Mercury, between the constructive power of light and the harmonious reflection of that transparent light into the layers of manifestation.
The art of living, the shining accomplishment of Mercury, will be interwoven with the golden art of right relationships, the resplendent gift of Venus, leading Humanity to express its radiance in the manifested world through its artistic work: “Repeat Beauty again and again, even amidst tears, until you reach the predestined”. [6]
Perhaps Beauty should not be described, explained or theorised, but experienced in all its dazzling power, capable of making us transcend the finite. Beauty deserves most of all silence and contemplation, it deserves to be “breathed” like the air that keeps us alive, it deserves to be implemented and lived as our most truthful essence, what makes us human and divine at the same time.
“There is no ugliness which will not be engulfed in the rays of the rainbow. There are no fetters which will not disintegrate in the freedom of Beauty. How shall we find the words to approach the concept of the universe? How shall we tell about the evolution of forms? How to uplift the consciousness to the study of fundamentals? How to stimulate humanity to scientific cognition of the worlds? Each realization is born in Beauty”. [7]
To celebrate the supreme beauty of this fiery meeting of lights, we want art – which a mundane reflection of Heaven – to speak for itself.
“Heaven is my model. I copy it in me point by point, from light to light”.
