Creating with Sound and Color

Suono-ColoreIn the centre of the current sign of Taurus, which teaches the construction and triumph of Light, we dedicate this article (concerned with the 4th Ray category of Art) to Color in close connection with Sound, as presented by the Tibetan esoteric philosophy:

“The question now mooted in Science, whether a sound is capable of calling forth impressions of light and colour in addition to its natural sound impressions, has been answered by Occult Science ages ago. Every impulse or vibration of a physical object producing a certain vibration of the air, that is, causing the collision of physical particles, the sound of which is capable of affecting the ear produces at the same time a corresponding flash of light, which will assume some particular colour. For, in the realm of hidden Forces, an audible sound is but a subjective colour; and a perceptible colour, but an inaudible sound; both proceed from the same potential substance, which Physicists used to call ether, and now refer to under various other names; but which we call plastic, through invisible SPACE. (…) colour and sound are two out of the seven correlative aspects, on our plane, of one and the same thing, viz., Nature’s first differentiated Substance.”[1]

Sound and Color are immediately associated to hearing and sight, music and painting or, in combination, to theater and movies, but they are two of the main components of any Art form or any human faculty and expression, acting on different materials or tools. Much of technology and science is based on these sound and light Vibrations, also expanded beyond the visible and the audible (infrared, ultraviolet, ultrasonic, spectrometers, interferometers, oscillographs, ultrasound scans, resonances …) and are used by all media to communicate, transmit and learn (television, telephone, internet…).

As indicated by the tradition of ancient Wisdom, “colour and sound are two of the seven correlative aspects, on our plane, of one and the same thing, viz. Nature’s first differentiated Substance”. They are not distinct in essence, yet they serve in different ways, depending on the plane or the tool of transmission and perception.

Sound and Light are also referred to as the two fundamental energies of Ideas, of those Platonic principles that are the source of all manifestations, “the Powers that produce precipitates.” To create it is necessary to know the mysteries of these two Powers, and humanity is driven to do so, out of necessity or natural attraction.

Thus meditation (literally “thinking to heal, or reintegrate”) reveals that the Art of thinking itself is based on these same fundamental “correlative aspects” of the ‘plastic’, living, Space. The concepts, the mental Forms that are formed in our brain, are essentially the synthesis between sensations (hearing, sound) and images (light) perceived through the sense organs or by other “spiritual organs” which receive, like stations and antennas, the subtler influences of the three usual worlds of human being (mental, emotional, physical).

These subtler organs are indicated as etheric, astral and mental Centers and beyond: the energy fulcrums or vortexes in our system that receive and transmit subtler ‘messages’ or influences than sounds and text messages. Their prime physical tools or “mobiles” are the endocrine glands.

The organism is a masterpiece of Nature and acts as a vehicle of Consciousness conveying impressions between the outer and inner, or analogously deeper, or occult world.

The true Artist has a more refined sensibility than usual: more evolved sense organs, action organs and etheric centers. Such are the enlightened big capitalists and altruistic politicians (very few still!), and educators of all kinds, or any human being with a real culture. Geniuses are the works of art of the human kingdom, and esoteric Teaching calls the greatest of them Initiates, of various degrees of hierarchical power.

The ingenious Thinkers, the Great Ones of Humanity, inspired by the elevated Energy or Consciousness of the Higher Realms, are “the salt of the Earth”. Such guiding lights or fires, solitary yet related in an organic subtle system, light up the dark and boundless rooms of apparent mediocrity, in “this world” and “through the worlds”.

The Sounds and Lights of Ideas are not limited to the visible and audible of current human senses, but pierce the levels of substance in proportion to their power of impulse, their vibration.

And so it is up to us, students of Wisdom of Nature, to learn the Art of creating with Sound and Color.

Thus we have some brilliant pearls on sonorous Color and radiant Sound in order to inspire our steps in the here and now of everyday life, to guide the mind of our hearts … which, in hindsight, is the most advanced “phone” we can have.[2]

The Initiate, the spiritual genius, knows the correspondences and correlations in the various worlds of the universe “in terms of colour when dealing with form; in terms of sound when dealing with the life side, and in terms of vitality when dealing with intelligence, or the activity aspect.”

The Sound, the fiery impulse of Life (detailed in the TPS category Harmonics), is the supreme creator Agent (the Word or Logos, defined by M.me Blavatsky “the first correlation of Akasha”, i.e., absolute Space, the Root of all manifestations).

The Vitality (Prana in Sanskrit) of the Intelligence-Activity aspect is well expressed by the formula “energy follows thought” and if the Thinker, at any level of existence, is powerful and beneficial, the life force of the planned and built form will be powerful and healthy, “useful and beautiful”: evolutionary.

With regards to Color, or the revelatory aspect of Light (Taurus), here is a series of statements that reveal it as the radiant door between the visible and invisible, between the outer form and inner force:

colori“When the Logos uttered the great cosmic Word for this solar system, three major streams of colour issued forth, breaking almost simultaneously into another four, so giving us the seven streams of colour by which manifestation becomes possible. These colours are:

  1. Blue.
2. Indigo. 3. Green. 4. Yellow. 5. Orange. 6. Red.
7. Violet.

(…) These seven streams of colour were the product of logoic meditation. The Logos meditated, brooded, conceived mentally, formed an ideal world, and built it up in thought matter. Then our objective universe flashed into being, radiant with the seven colours, with the deep blue or indigo for synthetic undertone.

(…) Colour is therefore “that which does conceal.” It is simply the objective medium by means of which the inner force transmits itself; it is the reflection upon matter of the type of influence that is emanating from the Logos, and which has penetrated to the densest part of His solar system.”

And now some light on the virtues of some colours:

“The true indigo is the blue of the vault of heaven on a moonless night. It is the culmination, and at the attainment by all of synthesis, the solar night will supervene. Hence the colour corresponds to what the sky nightly proclaims. Indigo absorbs.

(…) Blue-indigo, being cosmically related, and not simply analogous, may be used interchangeably for purposes of blinding.

(…) Green is the basis of the activity of Nature. It was the synthetic colour for system 1, and is the foundation for the present manifested system. The note of Nature is green, and each time a man reviews the robe in which the earth is clad he is contacting some of the force that reached its consummation in system 1. Green stimulates and heals.

Verde(…) indigo and green. The Synthetic Ray and the Activity Ray are at this stage the only two of which you can be absolutely assured. One is the goal of endeavour, and the other is the foundation colour of Nature.

(…) Yellow harmonises, it marks completion and fruition. Note how in autumn, when the processes of Nature have run their course and the cycle is complete, the yellow of the autumn is spread upon the landscape. Note also that when the sun pours unimpeded down the yellow of the harvest is also to be seen.

So it is in the life of the spirit. When the fourth plane of harmony or of buddhi is achieved, then is consummation. When the work of the personality is completed, and when the sun of the microcosm, the Ego, pours unimpeded down into the personal life, then comes fruition and harvest. The at-one-ment, or the harmonising has been made, and the goal has been reached. Blue and yellow blended result in green, and the synthetic blue or indigo (the love and wisdom aspect) dominates when the plane of harmony is reached. It leads then to the third plane of atma whereon the green of activity predominates…

Rosa giallo arancio(…) Orange. This colour is for our purpose the colour of the mental plane, the colour that marks burning; it is the symbol of flame, and curiously enough the colour that epitomises separation. But I would have you note that the occult orange is not exactly the colour that you understand by the term. Exoteric orange is a blend of yellow and red; esoteric orange is a purer yellow, and the red scarcely is seen at all. (…) the force of orange (which is scientific apprehension by the intelligence) comes in to perfect the link between spirit and form, between life and the vehicles through which it is seeking expression. (…) Orange stimulates the action of the etheric body; it removes congestion and increases the flow of prana.

(…) Red is for all apparent purposes one of the most difficult colours to consider. It ranks as undesirable. Why? Because it has been considered as the colour of kama, or evil desire, and the picture of the dark and lurid reds in the emotional body of the undeveloped man rises ever to one’s vision. Yet—at some distant time—red will be the basis of a solar system, and in the perfect merging of red, green and blue will come eventually the completed work of the Logos and the consummation of the pure white light. (…)

Colori LuceThe result of merging red, blue, and green is—as you know—white, and the Logos will then have esoterically “washed His robes and made them white in the blood,” just as the microcosm, in a lesser sense, does in process of evolution.

Violet. In a curious way the violet Ray of Ceremonial Law or Order is a synthetic ray when manifested in the three worlds. Just as the synthetic Ray of Love and Wisdom is the synthesis of all the life forces, so in the three worlds the seventh ray synthesises all that has to do with form. On the first plane, life in its purest, highest, undifferentiated synthetic aspect; on the seventh plane, form in its densest, grossest, most differentiated aspect; one is summed up in the synthetic Ray of Love, whilst the other is worked upon by the seventh.”

Viola

It is taught that our solar Logos knows three main manifestations, and we are currently in the second one, whose color is Indigo or synthetic Blue; here are Its colors or fundamental qualities:

The activity system was green.

The love system is blue.

The power system will be red.

“We might apportion the great basic colours between the various terms that we use to express the totality of the manifested universe:

3 Aspects Color

(…) colours are the expressions of force or quality. They hide or veil the abstract qualities of the Logos [the Seven Rays of the Light of Life], which qualities are reflected in the microcosm in the three worlds as virtues or faculties. (…) The colours exoterically have to do with the form. The forces or qualities which those colours conceal and hide have to do with the life, evolving within those forms. By the use of meditation the bridge is formed which connects these two. Meditation is the expression of the intelligence that links life and form, the self and the not-self, and in time and in the three worlds the process of this connection eventuates on the plane of mind which links the higher and the lower.”

Meditating does not require any technique, or necessarily exclude it; and yet “the thought is lightning”, the instantaneous flight, “keeping our mind in the Light”, being in the here and now, dancing as an iridescent veil everywhere and always. It is loving the Infinite in everything, in every instant. It is the interface of will.

Thinking in the here and now, we gradually learn the creative Meditation of Life, the Art of living. The other side of the rainbow bridge is thus built, step by step, knowingly, so that Beauty, the splendor of Truth, realizes its and our work of Art: the boundless Freedom, Unity with Heaven.
