The Power of Dreaming

“There is certainly a close relationship between Dream, myth and legend. It is known what propellant and cohesive force myths and legends have exercised in the development of every culture and civilization. You could not mention but a single one that does not have mythical and legendary sources, from which it seems to have emerged as if by prodigy. Those sources, luminous yet elusive, have colored every development, and their energies have propelled it, like the wind on a sailing ship. Every people guards and remembers legends and mythologies as a sacred treasure, its own, from which it could not be separated; and only then in times of serious confusion – such as the present one – lost and profaned its origins, having completed its time, it gradually dies. The rise of the desecrators marks the time of the end for civilizations, cultures, societies, nations.

It is therefore legitimate to argue that myths and legends are the expression of great dreams, and this truth has never lost its effectiveness, not even in those obscure historical situations, when human thought wanted to seek the solution of its problems in the concrete. In fact, then, first of all, we wanted to demolish them, thereby recognizing the power of their active presence: why so much insist on “de-mythicizing”, if legends were, as is now claimed, nothing but empty worthless simulacra?

Today, as we know, the lights of reason, misdirected, bear no other light than their own, and the truths of the spirit seem to have disappeared in the night, and forced into silence. “Facts” triumph, and the evidence is credited with realities that they do not possess. The time is right for Dreams; to reopen the sources of myths and refresh hearts thirsting for truth. This is precisely the most suitable time to dream of new legends and project them into the future, as demonstrated by the same spiritual and religious poverty of modern man.

Myths and legends are never written, originally.

They are born orally, so to speak, in short, they are sound products pervaded by powerful intelligence; therefore they are pregnant with prodigious developments. They are apparently fragile and inconsistent “celestial tales”, yet they are the basis of various cultures; when they are abandoned or profane, they fall back into a state of barbarism, modern but true.

If the Dream, as it is stated here, is at the origin of the myth, and therefore of the legends that tell it to the people, we can clearly see the profound religiosity that accompanies its work. The entire journey of the Dream, from the unknown Author to the users, never leaves the spiritual sphere, and passes as if in flight, without leaving formal traces, throughout the history of the various human events, to which it also gives purpose, coherence and meaning.

There is a third element that seems directly connected to the Dream, and therefore also to mythology, equally, and perhaps even more, unspecified and unstable: it is called Vision, and it is known that it acts with great power, even when its features are not clear.

Certainly those who “dream” pursue a well perceived Vision that attracts them, without which their actions would be vacuous; and the higher and brighter and more beautiful it is, the sharper and more powerful is the formula of the Dream. Even today it is admitted that the most vital and gifted peoples have been and still are supported and guided by their own Vision, impossible to contain in words and as if suspended in the future, to float in regions little known to the intellect but open to the investigation of the heart.

The Vision remains elusive and vague, in fact, if sought by the threads of the rational mind, and this discourages many intellectuals and leads them to deny it. Instead, it reveals itself and presents itself in all its mighty reality if seen from the eyes of the heart, which in certain modest and taciturn men are often open and see. And if we admit that the path of civilization is guided by Vision, just like a star in the sky, it can be deduced that a lot depends on these unknowns, who see it and follow it in silence, and endure pain and fatigue without ever giving it up.

It is said and repeated, perhaps without believing it anymore, that “without vision the people die”. A little while ago it was written that his death is also indicated by the profanation of the myth. The Vision shows him the future; the myth tells him and remembers the origin. Without these elements, the people lose cohesion, disintegrate and perish as a nation.

How to deny the creative and sacred power of the Dream?

Let the Dreamer therefore be wise, far-sighted and provident.” *

(Today it occurs the heliocentric conjunction between Mercury and Neptune (4th and 6th Rays), who teach us the Art of Vision.)
